Iraqi Parliament Vacation??
I guess the war in Iraq is going well. It must be, because the Iraqi Parliament is going to be taking a vacation for the entire month of August, while OUR AMERICAN SOLDIERS are fighting for THEIR "FREEDOM". I guess the Civil War (Bush calls it Sectarian Violence) has ended. I guess the suicide attacks have stopped. I guess the cowardly murders of our soldiers have ceased. I guess civilian casualties have subsided. I guess all of the benchmarks that the Bush "regime" and the Iraqi Parliament set, have all been met. I guess al-quaeda has been defeated and no longer exists. I guess our Congress will finally be able to pass legislation that the American Majority has been SCREAMING for since the last election. I guess all of our soldiers can finally come home now. I guess the United States has now regained its status in the world community that it lost 6 years ago. I guess Bush was right all along! I guess I'd better wake-up now, and face the real nightmare!
Support The Troops??
"Support The Troops". We've all heard this phrase uttered over and over by the politicians. So it begs the question, why did all but 5 republicans vote against HR 1585, Webb Amendment 2012? This amendment would have ensured that all of our soldiers would have equal time out of combat, in comparison to the time they spent in combat. Simply: If you spent 12 months in combat operations you shall not be re-deployed back to combat until 12 months have past. If you spent 15 months in combat operations you shall not be re-deployed back to combat until 15 months have past. Seems logical, right? Seems fair, right?
Consider this: There are military units who have spent up to 15 months in Iraq, then sent back home, only to be re-deployed back to Iraq in as little as 3 months!! Barely enough time for the soldiers to even consider recovering mentally as well as physically from combat. Barely enough time for them to re-connect with their loved ones. "Support The Troops" , they say. You politicians are hypocrites. We Americans are still waiting for any of you to pass any legislation that "Supports The Troops". 6 years is a long time! Do you know what else is long? The unemployment line you will all be standing in come next election! You have all failed! You have all been derelict in your duty to protect American soldiers. But I guess thats easy for you, considering none of you have any family members who ! have or will be going to Iraq. I do not have any family members there either, however I did serve for 3 years honorable in the Army. Including a 6 month deployment to the Middle East. I was not in as much danger as these soldiers are now in, but I can say unequivocally that it was the most stressful time of my life.
Wake up America! Our beloved country, and the values for which countless men and women gave their lives for, is eroding, and we are all letting this happen before our own eyes. If we sit back and do nothing about it, these politicians who "Support The Troops" will surely destroy everything that our soldiers fought and died for, throughout our country's history. It's time to step-up and speak-up! That, my fellow Americans, is how you Support The Troops!! Get them home now!
